“How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” —Annie Dillard in The Writing Life
This morning I stop at a passage from Bonnie Friedman’s Writing Past Dark: Envy, Fear, Distraction, and Other Dilemmas in the Writer’s Life, probably because I have been struggling to finish a personal essay that’s more personal — and therefore more difficult to write — than any of the others I’ve published. Here it is:
“I have been staring into silence’s blank face all month, and I want to rattle it, to shake it, to force it to confess what’s at its obsessive, fanatic core.”
What about you? What quotes or passages do you use to get inspired?
